Steve Reich’s Double Sextet, composed in 2007, joins the prestigious Hawkes Pocket Score series. The work is scored for two instrumental sextets of flute, clarinet, piano, vibraphone, violin and cello, or for a live sextet playing against a sextet recorded on tape, following in a line of Reich’s compositions employing ‘multiples’ including Electric Counterpoint and Different Trains. The new score includes a note by the composer, performing notes detailing necessary amplification, and a stage layout plan (English, French and German). Double Sextet has travelled widely since its premiere in 2008 and has been recorded by eighth blackbird on Nonesuch.
