Benjamin Britten: Notes from the Archive - 1. Lachrymae

Benjamin Britten’s imaginative response to music by John Dowland, Lachrymae was originally composed in 1948 for viola and piano. It was later arranged for viola and string orchestra towards the end of Britten’s life in 1976, and offers a window into his lifelong fascination with early music.
