Paderewski's pianistic repertoire centred upon compositions by Chopin, which he studied in great depth. The Danses polonaises Op9, which were composed in 1883 while Paderewski resided for the second time in Berlin, return to elements of Polish folk music and are thus indebted to Chopin's great example.
