This version for upper voices was recorded by Cantus on their album Northern Lights and is very approachable for choirs of all abilities. There are no words, only 'yoik syllables' with no meaning, for which a pronunciation guide is included.

Composer's Note
Sacred was originally part of a Mass setting in which I combined the traditional Latin Mass movements with elements from the Sámi yoik tradition, other Norwegian folk music and traditional Finnish music. The Mass was composed around 2000 and released as the album Aejlies Gaaltije – The Sacred Source in 2004. Later I did various versions of this music, including this choral SSAA version for the album Northern Lights by Cantus. There are no words in this song, only “yoik syllables” with no meaning. The following may be used as a guide to pronunciation:

a – as in ‘far’
j – as in ‘yes’
o – as in ‘for’
