Tangos for Piano from Astor Piazzolla
El Viaje: 15 Tangos and Other Pieces.
Astor Piazzolla is one of the most important composers of tango, because he revolutionised it by introducing new instruments (such as the electric guitar and the saxophone) and new harmonic and melodic styles into the traditional tango ensemble. This style became known as tango nuevo. His ideas were inevitably met with resistance initially, as he had to push past the traditional Argentine saying, 'In Argentina everything may change - except the tango'. However, over the years, his new style has gradually become accepted, most notably in North America and Europe.
These 15 magnificent tangos and other characteristic pieces by Piazzolla, arranged for intermediate piano solo, are now in print for the first time. They capture the sophistication and sensuousness of the genre entirely, and so are perfect for those who wish to extend their repertoire.
