"...the atmospheric piece is moody and full of suspense. Structured in a single slow movement, Turnage's score opens with stabbing chords that alternate with quieter, sustained material. These chords, quite tonal by Turnage's standards, derive their notes from a musical spelling-out of the Texan model's name, and when the music gets under way the first melody to be heard is the opera's 'Anna Nicole' theme. Wailing, plaintive high trumpets and soprano saxophones add a bluesy accent. Scored for a large orchestra, including tolling bells and rattling maracas, the piece is both a Texan soundscape and – as its title suggests – a taut meditation on a death that raised such a media furore."
