Three Fantastic Dances
(1920) (Drei fantastische Tänze) 51.March in C major 2.Waltz in C major 3.Polka in C major
Shostakovich retained a lifelong fondness for these three early piano pieces and it is easy to see why. They are probably the first pieces of his in which his distinctive personality as a composer begins to emerge. Sharp, witty and inventive, they give a clear taste of a young artist on the brink of self-discovery.
