Antonino Votto
From its composition Puccini’s La Bohème, which had its première in 1896, quickly established itself as one of the most popular operas. In August 1956, it became the thirteenth complete recording that Callas took part in for Columbia/Angel and the twelfth with the company at La Scala, Milan.
The company with her includes what should have been the perfect Rodolfo, Giuseppe di Stefano. His was one of the most beautiful lyric tenor voices of the twentieth century
“When Callas, Moffo and di Stefano were in their golden age -- especially the last of the three -- times were rather good. Hard to beat these pros: Callas, the vulnerable Mimi; Moffo, the full- throated and exuberant Musetta; di Stefano, the translucent Rodolfo. Then, as icing on the cake, a sonorous Niccolo Zaccharia as Colline.” CD Universe
