Never published before, this Poulenc’s Valse has a really fascinating history. Written in 1951, the work exists in the form of a facsimile of an autograph manuscript, incorporated into a drawing by the painter Richard Chanlaire, this drawing itself the motif of a scarf (or silk square) created by the haute couture designer Pierre Balmain. Admittedly modest in size, this Valse from the Musiques de soie is a work full of charm, which also applies to the astonishing circumstances of its creation, from which it is inseparable.
