Originally for violin, this beautiful Nocturne has two editions in one publication - for intermediate and advanced levels.
19th-century German composer-pianist J.F. Burgmüller lived most of his life in Paris and writes in a lyrical style, typical of the age. The easier version remains in bass clef throughout; the advanced version is a 5th higher; and both offer musical and technical challenges. Beautiful and evocative music where more than simply technique can be displayed.
This (lower edition) has been very popular with intermediate students who are not quite ready to play in thumb position yet, but have a good knowledge of the positions up to harmonic G (one octave above the open string).
