An outstanding new recording of the Mendelssohn violin concerto with Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos, winner of both the Sibelius and Paganini competitions. Kavakos is supported on this recording by the Salzburg Camarata, of which he has been the Artistic Director since 2007. Interestingly, the concerto is coupled with beautiful recordings of both of Mendelssohn’s Piano Trios, with Enrico Pace (piano) and Patrick Demenga (cello).
Kavakos will be appearing on the 6th July 2009 at Wigmore Hall in a programme to include works by Korngold, Strauss and Kreisler. He will also be performing Bartok’s violin concerto on Tuesday 18th August at the 2009 BBC Proms with the Budapest Festival Orchestra under Ivan Fischer.
“As a violinist whose dazzling virtuosity is rooted in the deepest musicianship, Leonidas Kavakos has few equals when it comes to the concertos of the early 20th century…” The Sunday Telegraph
