Well known for his virtuosic but highly engaging writing for solo instruments with orchestra, Magnus Lindberg here turns his attention to the cello. The concerto, dating from 1997-99, is "in a highly taut style which travels at a quickstep through all the possibilities of the instrument" (Diapason magazine). It has been recorded by Anssi Karttunen with the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, for Sony.
