My Love Has Departed is a traditional Ojibway love song, arranged here for three-part treble voices with an optional drum part. The form is triparate (some call this N'Amerind Song Form) where the first go round is to nonsense syllables, the second to the words (if any) and the last to words or syllables.

This song is about the sorrow of an Ojibway lady when her lover leaves her for the city of Sault Ste. Marie. She thinks she hears his returning, splashing oar, but it is merely a loon splashing water.
