Gustav Holst's First Suite in E-flat for Military Band (1909) is considered by many to be the cornerstone piece in the repertoire of music for the modern concert band. The First Suite (and its companion Second Suite in F) gave legitimacy to the band as a means of musical expression and inspired future generations of composers to write for this new, emerging medium. In this edition, Holst's classic composition for band, now nearing its hundredth birthday, has been adapted for performance by the concert band of today.
