After a majestic opening, an Allegro section presents a rousing, syncopated melody which is both contemporary and pleasing. An expressive, cantabile melody played by the low instruments of each section is featured in the contrasting slow movement. The final Allegro opens with a solo in the percussion section, then returns to the main theme for a resounding close.
