A number of Detlev Glanert’s works were premiered in Halle, including the children’s opera ‘Die drei Rätsel’ (‘The Three Riddles’). It is therefore no surprise that the Halle International Festival of Children’s Choirs commissioned Glanert to write a work for children’s choir for the festival in 2004. In gentle pastel colours, the piece captures the calm nocturnal atmosphere of the poem, a lyrical evocation of nature, as well as the ‘hums, murmurs, whispers, trickles’ of the ‘spring on pebblestones’ and the ‘bees around the lime tree’.
