Pinchas Zukerman returns to The Lark Ascending for the first time on record in over forty years in a magical performance with the orchestra of which he is Principal Guest Conductor: the Royal Philharmonic, founded 70 years ago by Sir Thomas Beecham.

Zukerman plays and conducts a definitive collection of the best in English music: Vaughan Williams’s Tallis Fantasia and Elgar’s Introduction & Allegro and Serenade for Strings frame shorter works such as Salut d’amour, Chanson de Matin and Chanson de Nuit.
Includes the world premiere recording of In Moonlight: an arrangement for solo viola, strings and harp of Elgar’s famous Canto Popolare.

It was in the London of the late 1960s that Zukerman’s love affair with English music began. Befriended by Jacqueline du Pré and Sir John Barbirolli he discovered a natural affinity with the music of Elgar and its world of nobilmente. This album made in London’s Cadogan Hall celebrates Zukerman’s lifelong love of this sublimely moving music.
