Born in Guangzhou China Chen Yi started studying violin & piano when she was only 3 & received BA & MA music degrees from the Beijing Central Conservatory & a DMA degree from Columbia University in New York. The piano composition Ba Ban was commis sioned in 1999 by Carnegie Hall to celebrate the new millennium.
