Synopsis

The brothers Johann and Jacob Rantzau have become bitter enemies after probate disputes. Their children Luise and Georg, however, are secretly in love. Luise, who is going to be married to the head forester, Lebel, falls seriously ill. Only when he realises that his daughter’s life is endangered does Johann decide to give in and talk to his brother. But when Jacob drives his brother from his estate, the conflict seems to escalate again. Eventually Georg, who left his father’s house full of resentment and challenged Lebel to a duel, manages to reconcile his father and uncle and finally settle the dispute.
