Henrietta is worried as her little brother is lost. She assumes that Lythetia, the Fire Fairy who lives in a crypt on Mirror Lake, has abducted him. Her parents, however, do not believe in fairy-tale creatures. Thus Henrietta sets off on her own, taking her friends along. The Fire Fairy is not at all evil, but lonely and haunted by guilt: she fell in love with Cyrus, a human being, but decided against him since the liaison would have meant losing her magic powers for good and besides, she was not sure whether he was the right one in the first place. In order to obtain assurance she sent him to the oracle from whence he did not return. The children believe that her remorse is authentic, and Henrietta promises to free Cyrus from the Fire Mountain. Cyrus is bitterly disappointed in Lythetia and refuses to go back to her. Henrietta has to summon up all her power in order to convince him of the magic power of love. The story finishes with a happy ending for everybody: Lythecia and Cyrus are happily reunited and Henrietta has her brother back!
