• For Alexander Raskatov, the human voice with its tonal mutability is one of the most important means of expression
• in his own words, his music often deals with the 'forgotten idioms of Romanticism', which are, however, reshaped and presented in an unusual, nostalgic, almost 'unreal' context
• early works sometimes make references to Minimalism and also to popular Russian art songs of the 19th century
• in all phases of his output his works display a spiritual, liturgical element
• Raskatov regards a form as 'a static non-action', as a 'pleasant idleness'
• many of his works adopt the language of the musical avant-garde in a modernist manner
• music demonstrates a refined treatment of sound and the concentrated development of material
