Programme Note
‘Verwandlung’ was jointly commissioned by the Aboa Musica Festival Turku and the Trondheim Chamber Music Festival, where the work was performed on 23 September 2004. It is dedicated to the Swedish trombonist Christian Lindberg and the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet. The first part of the composition contains numerous theatrical elements for the trombonist, who first appears in a clown costume and then ‘transforms’ into a tragic figure dressed in black for the second part.
