Programme Note
The Russian composer created his Concerto No. 4 for piano and chamber orchestra ‘Prague’ in 1979 for a competition and used many quotations from Czechoslovak folk music in it. Among others, the song ‘Vyletela holubenka’ (‘The little dove flew out’), the Moravian song ‘U starei’ and the Slovakian song ‘Pride Ty Suhajko’ in the final movement are quoted and processed almost note-for-note.
