‘The Three Scenes for Voice and Instruments was premiered in Moscow in May 1981 by Nelly Li and the soloist ensemble of the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra under the direction of Alexander Lazarov. As the piece has no specific content - it is an attempt to reconstruct a vision using the means of instrumental theatre - I will refrain from any description. Only one thing can be said: since there are no allusions to definite events here, I cannot defend myself against any of the possible interpretations.’ (Alfred Schnittke)
