“’morphing’ is a piece that plays with the unexpected transformation. In films, ‘morphing’ is the name given to the visual transformation of objects using CGI (computer-generated images. But ‘metamorphosis’ is also known as a stylistic device in music, especially in the form of ‘Variations’.
Many pieces of Contemporary Music end like they begin because they strive for a certain stylistic and conceptual unity. I have to admit that I find that rather boring.
I wanted that nothing is certain in ‘morphing’ because I love music that challenges and surprises me. At any time in my piece what is heard can be transformed into the absolute opposite: from organized sound to chaos, from serious music to light music, from noise to sound and back again. Over and over the ‘expected’ course is undermined and sabotaged until the ‘Unexpected’ itself becomes the ‘Expected’ perhaps, and the cliché overcomes itself, so to speak.” (Moritz Eggert)
