Composer's Notes

[The work relates musically to Tombeau II: Hommage à Pierre Boulez] but the form is a different one. It swells and subsides again. At the end, there is a slow fade-out after a great outcry. By employing a continuous electronic layer and a detuned electric guitar, it is a reference to Boulez’s acoustic research at IRCAM in Paris, which he founded. He had the idea for the orchestration of one of his Notations to use the Ondes Martenot, which in turn refers to his French cultural orbit. As I could not use an Ondes Martenot, I adopted the electric guitar to provide an extra colour within the traditional orchestral palette.
