Intermezzo

When I received the commission for the Intermezzo from the Kammerakademie Potsdam it was a condition to connect the work with Berlin or Potsdam.
My publisher and friend Hans-Ulrich Duffek gave me an advice to think about Frederick the Great and the musical theme (Thema Regium) given by him to Johann Sebastian Bach in Potsdam for the variations in The Musical Offering. Of course many composers used this theme after Bach and the theme is very long to write proper variations which should last only five minutes. So I used only fragments of it. The piece begins from the first four notes of the theme played by vibraphone, then you can here it played by bells and at the end the beginning of the theme is played by the trumpet. I also used the part of chromatic scale from time to time.
