Programme Note
“’Postcriptum’, composed in 2007, joins several sets of Preludes and some Postludes in Auerbach's catalogue of chamber music. An ‘afterthought,’ the work is quietly meditative, with a post-Shostakovich, post-Schnittke-atmosphere of something we might think we've heard before, yet have not. The music is suffused with nostalgia and a deep melancholy. The second half of piece, marked ‘PPS,’ presents a kind of dissolution of the melodic writing of the first half, and includes ghostly trills in the piano and ‘slightly howling’ glissandi in the strings.” (David Korevaar)
