Story Teller takes its inspiration from the work of English photographer Tim Walker, contrasting his extravagant and romantic style with electronic and sampled sounds which reflect over-commercialism within the world of fashion. Walker has been a regular contributor to Vogue and other fashion magazines, as well as the focus of multiple exhibitions and his work features in the permanent collections of London’s National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Kalitzke’s concerto is written in six movements (swing – iron doll – manhattan butterfly – bed in the light – fairy in the ruins – panic room), each with a different approach between the solo cello and orchestra and an overall narrative linked to the mythological aura of Walker’s photographs.
