Composer Christopher Tin marks his signing to Decca Gold—his major label debut—with a new album release on August 21, To Shiver the Sky.
Recognized as the first artist to win a GRAMMY Award for music written for a video game, composer Christopher Tin will release a new album titled To Shiver the Sky on August 21. This album will mark Tin’s major label debut after signing to Decca Gold.
The first single Sogno di Volare (“The Dream of Flight”) is a new recording of Tin’s beloved theme to the popular game Civilization VI, a choral setting of Leonardo da Vinci’s writings on flight. “The inspirational main theme serves as a recurring motif throughout the album, periodically returning after moments of darkness and despair,” recalls Tin.

To Shiver the Sky is “an oratorio about the history of flight, and mankind’s quest to conquer the heavens,” explains Tin. The ambitious 11-track album will also mirror that story with the parallel evolution of Western classical music. Tin ultimately settled on 11 historical figures—“our greatest astronomers, inventors, visionaries and pilots,” he details—each of whom serve as the basis for a composition, adding up to a kaleidoscopic epic that crosses centuries, continents, and perspectives.
With humanity at the core of Tin’s creativity, he says: “It’s great to be able to join forces with Universal Music Group to share those values.” After releasing his first two albums independently, Tin states he is “immensely honored to sign to Decca Gold with its illustrious family of artists, prestigious history and forward-thinking team.”
President of Decca Gold and Decca Records, US Graham Parker says: “We are delighted to welcome Christopher Tin into the Decca Gold family. With his successes to date from GRAMMY Awards to writing acclaimed scores for film and video games, Christopher’s talent is unquestioned and his fan base truly global. We are thrilled to join forces to elevate Christopher and his music to the widest audience possible and make him the next biggest voice in classical music.”

About Christopher Tin
California-born, British-educated Christopher Tin’s creations include lush symphonic works, world-music infused choral anthems, and electro-acoustic hybrid film and video game scores. He has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Lang Lang, Alan Menken, BT, and Danny Elfman. His recent film work includes music for Crazy Rich Asians, Suddenly Seventeen, Sausage Party, and Tess, and he co-created the startup sound for the original Microsoft Surface computing platform.
In 2011, Tin made history as the first artist to win a Grammy Award for music written for a video game with the “Baba Yetu” theme song for the popular video game Civilization IV. In 2016, the 2K Games company contacted Tin to write the theme song for the sixth installment of Civilization. Tin's debut album, 2009’s multi-lingual song cycle Calling All Dawns, won the Grammy for Best Classical Crossover Album. His 2014 follow-up release, The Drop That Contained the Sea (which traces, in ten languages, the journey of a droplet of water moving from snow to a mountain stream to the ocean and back to the clouds), debuted at #1 on Billboard's classical charts and premiered to a sold-out audience at Carnegie Hall. Tin’s music has also been performed in featured concerts at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, Cadogan Hall, and other prestigious venues.
