Boosey & Hawkes, a Concord company, welcomes Hannah Eisendle to its catalogue. The recently-concluded agreement with the Austrian-born composer who also enjoys international success as a conductor and pianist, includes both new and previously unpublished works. The collaboration is launched with the world premiere of Eisendle’s Azinheira for orchestra on 6 July under Joana Carneiro at Carinthian Summer – a composition commissioned by the festival and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Hannah Eisendle’s compositions are often inspired by extra-musical impressions, images and other art forms, which she transforms into sound events. Her orchestral work heliosis, commissioned by the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, recently caused a sensation. The world premiere in March 2022 under the direction of Marin Alsop was followed by performances in Madrid and Paris as well as at the BBC Proms.

Hannah Eisendle was born in Vienna in 1993 and studied piano at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre and composition and conducting at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She received important impulses for her work in conducting masterclasses with Marin Alsop, Cristian Macelaru and Johannes Schlaefli, as a Conducting Fellow at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz, CA, and as a participant in the Darmstadt Summer Courses.

As a conductor, she is particularly interested in performing works of the 20th and 21st centuries. She has worked with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria, the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Concert-Verein, the Johann Strauss Festival Orchestra Vienna and as a musical assistant with the Orchestre National de France and the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock.

In keeping with her preference for working with artists from different genres, an important focus of her activities is opera. Eisendle worked for several years as a conductor and musical assistant for the youth opera at the Theater an der Wien and assisted with productions at the Neue Oper Wien. She has also conducted at oper rundum, in the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre, and has assisted at the Opéra du Capitole de Toulouse. She has been Kapellmeister and répétiteur at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt since 2023.

She has received commissions from the Vienna RSO, the Vienna Concert-Verein and the Carinthian Summer festival, among others. In 2022, she was commissioned by the Vienna State Opera to compose the youth opera Elektrische Fische (world premiere in 2024). Performers of her works include Marin Alsop, Giedre Šlekyte, Joana Carneiro, Manfred Honeck and Cristian Macelaru, as well as numerous international orchestras and ensembles.

Hannah Eisendle teaches composition at the Gustav Mahler Private University for Music in Klagenfurt. She lives in Vienna.

Dr Helmuth Kreysing, Senior Director, Publishing, Promotion & Production at Boosey & Hawkes, Berlin, says: “At just 30 years old, Hannah Eisendle is one of the most exciting talents in the German-speaking territories. Her assurance in handling large orchestral forces impressed us alongside her vivid musical language to create powerful imagery. Together with our international teams, we are very much looking forward to supporting and developing her career as a composer-conductor through publishing her compositions.”

Hannah Eisendle herself states: “I've always had a strong preference for works of the 20th and 21st centuries, so I have repeatedly held scores published by Boosey & Hawkes in my hands in recent years - both as a composer and as a conductor - and have studied them with great admiration. I feel honoured to know that I am now joining those composers who are particularly important to me. What a great pleasure it is to be with a publishing house that is so committed to promoting contemporary compositions!”
