“My friend, the PR entrepreneur Harri Saukkomaa, commissioned from me a small piece of music that would be his birthday present for his wife, the artist Melek Mazici. I decided to write a work for the solo violin. I find Melek Mazici’s colourful acrylic paintings on bright white very impressive, and their free, yet compact form gave me a direct inspiration to my music. The title “Garden Wind” (“Bahçedeki meltem”) is taken from one of Mazici’s paintings.
The music flows freely and in bright tones, in a similar way as paint seems to spread out on canvas. But just as in Mazici’s paintings, I wanted to keep the form compact, and “Garden Wind” thus lasts only four and half minutes. It soon turned out that this music needs to be played for wider audiences than its original recipient only.” (Osmo Tapio Räihälä)
