Programme Note

In 2009, Moritz Eggert created a purely instrumental work for string orchestra entitled Tetragrammaton, which is more of a mystical, Kabbalistic nature and was premiered in Stuttgart by the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra. According to ‘occidental white-magical tradition’, the four letters of the Tetragrammaton ‘symbolise the totality of divine unity on earth’, whereby the four symbolise the earth and the creative human being. ‘At the moment, I am interested in certain states of intoxication in my music, as they play a role in Sufi mysticism, for example, and not for esoteric reasons (I am absolutely anti-esoteric), but because I am interested in the “inexpressible” in music, certain moments of taking off,’ says Eggert.
