In this whimsical story for narrator, tuba and orchestra by Mark Lothar, the lazy bear in a fairytale primeval age fails to take advantage of King Lion's offer to choose a suitable tail like many other animals. As a result, he was passed over and lost out to the fox or the horse. As befits a grumpy bear, a bass tuba is used as the solo instrument.
