Composer's Notes
‘A fragment can develop a tremendous attraction for a composer. The empty spaces create room for speculation and present the unfinished. The ‘Parafonia’ is by no means a completion, rather it is a very subjective retelling that declares the fragmentary to be a principle. The material is exposed, re-grouted and repeatedly illuminated in different ways.
Mozart himself later took up the beginning of the Adagio melody again in his motet ‘Ave verum’ - this further development is also narrated. And in the coda, Liszt is greeted with his Ave verum homage ‘A la Chapelle Sixtine’.’ (Johannes X. Schachtner)
