Summer Lightning is the latest and perhaps most brazen step my music has taken in recent works towards simplicity and candor. At times I feel like some fate-driven Istar, shedding veils of complexity and sophistication, moving inexorably toward a blinding light of simple truth.
Perhaps it is, on the other hand, simply a regression to a child-like state of delight in those simple harmonies and rhythms that made being a musician the only path my life could take.
The title springs directly from my images of Tanglewood, the BSO, and Seiji Ozawa.
