Composer's Notes
‘The main title of my new work for solo cello, percussion and string orchestra is ‘SÖVQ’ (pronounced Schöwg). The Azerbaijani word means impulse, inspiration, passion or devotion.
The work consists of two parts:
- ‘Dreams’ - these are lovely dreams, bright memories, cheerful wishes and unfulfilled longings that do not leave the memory and still inspire and captivate in the beautiful world of illusions today.
- ‘Fighting’ - This expresses the desire and determination to fight and overcome obstacles, a tensing of all forces and the irresistible desire for new goals that beckon and attract us.
I am delighted to be working again with Ivan Monighetti, a wonderful musician, an excellent teacher and a brilliant master of the cello.
Our collaboration began in 1979 with the piece Habil Sayagi, then continued with the work Ashk havasi, written especially for his anniversary. In addition, the cello concerto M?rsiy? was a work that was a milestone for me. All these works were performed by Ivan Monighetti and his students in the world's most important concert halls and repeatedly recorded on CD albums.’ (Frangis Ali-Sade)
