Following the 2004 quintet ‘Pirotecnia’ for five percussionists, the immensely successful percussion concerto ‘Focs d'artifici’ (Fireworks) was created in 2008. The work has already been performed fifty times in Germany, China, Spain, Austria, Colombia, Turkey and Mexico. The successful piece was once created at the suggestion of percussionist Peter Sadlo and was premiered by him on 14 January 2008 with the Württembergische Kammerphilharmonie Reutlingen. The essence of fireworks in all their visual and acoustic, but also very sudden and fleeting appearance is reflected in all three movements of the work in different ways. For the composer, fireworks are also an expression of the emotions of people in large communities at a wide variety of celebrations. He describes the essence of the three movements of Focs d'artifici as rational, emotional and irrational when applied to the world of human feeling and thought. The titles of these movements are: 1st movement: ‘Fanfarra de fusta’ (Wood fanfare), 2nd movement: ‘Font màgica’ (Magic fountain) and 3rd movement: ‘Correfocs’ (Catalan traditional night festivity).
