In 1961 Shostakovich’s friend Lev Atovmyan compiled this orchestral suite which includes six numbers drawn from the second film in the ‘Maxim Trilogy’ (‘The Return of Maxim’, see op.45) as well as two numbers from a quite different film, ‘The Unforgettable Year 1919’ (see op.89).
