Programme Note
This work features a unique arrangement of musicians: two wind quintets, brass quintet and string quintet. Like many of Vivier’s works, this also is based on Asian mythology, this time a tale of opposing Hindu half-brothers and deities. Vivier reflects this story by filling his score with contrasts of calm and agitated material, as well as long and short tones.
