Composer's Notes

Kamni (Stones) was premiered by Orfeas String Quartet at Grosvenor Chapel, Nottinghill in London, 2010. The work is a music theatre where musicians are performers, playing also the small percussion instruments and reciting text. Each part is a contrast to the previous, in rhythmic, timbral and character. "Saki" is a mystic, rather mischievous , whilst "Gazol" has romantic motives and chords. "Tuprok" and "Gunoh" are dramatic parts. The last section, "Zunnor", takes us to the Coda, after a climax where all the instruments withdraw from one another into the extreme ranges of the registers, creating rather spacious emptiness, before disappearing into thin glass echo harmonics.
