“I love explosions. I love when we explode with joy!”, said Ana Sokolovic once in an interview with Isabelle Panneton (2012). One can feel that it’s with this same energy that Viva la musica! came to be. The original text of the piece is an excerpt from Gaudeamus igitur (let us rejoice), a latin hymn that Ana Sokolovic sang with her classmates at all school and university graduations in her native Serbia. The text itself certainly has a festive character, but it is especially in the way that the composer puts it to movement, making the syllables dance, that we feel all of the energy of the piece.
