MOSES
O ew‘ger Vater, höre nicht,
was dieses Volk im Wahne spricht.
Die Knechtschaft ist‘s, die sie entmannt,
noch haben sie dich nicht erkannt!
Voll Langmuth bist du und voll Gnade,
o lass sie deine Allmacht sehn,
und lass sie auf dem Rettungspfade
zum Lande der Verheißung gehn.
Hebe den Stab!
So spricht zu mir der Herr des Meeres und der Wellen,
auf dass das Meer zum Lande werde,
ich sende meinen Hauch über das Meergestad,
wie Mauern stehn die Wellen
und trocken liegt der Pfad.
Getrost, Israel’s Volk,
und wandle Hand in Hand
durch des Schilfmeeres Schooß
in das verheißne Land.

Ein leises Säuseln weht, seht!
O seht dies Wunder!
Es theilt sich das Schilf
dort an dem Meergestad,
wie Mauer stehn die Wellen
und trocken liegt der Pfad.
Barmherzig ist der Herr,
es führt uns seine Hand
durch des Meeres Schooß,
in das gelobte Land!

Raise your stick!
Thus speaks to me the Lord of the sea and the waves,
So that the sea is turned into land,
I send my breath through the waters.
Like walls the waves now stand
And a dry path opens!
Do not be afraid, people of Israel,
Go arm in arm
Through the floor of the Reed Sea
To the Promised Land.

Behold the miracle!
The reeds part

Like walls rise the waves
And a dry path opens between them.
Merciful is the Lord!
His hand guides us
