A boy was born

A boy was born in Bethlehem:
Rejoice, rejoice Jerusalem.
And human flesh for all our sakes,
The word of God for us he takes,
Alleluia.

By Gabriel came the message blest,
And Mary bowed to God's behest.
His Mother's nature God put on,
Yet Lord was he, and God's own son.
Alleluia.

Here lying in a manger stall
He reigns for ever, Lord of all,
As recognised the ox and ass,
Who knew what child their Saviour was.
Alleluia.

The angels by the shepherds' fold
To them the joyful tidings told.
And Magi coming from afar
In homage bowed beneath the Star.
Alleluia.

So make we merry at his birth,
And praise the Lord of heav'n and earth.
The blessed Trinity we sing,
To Three in One our thanks we bring.
Alleluia.
