This piece merges plainsong influences with the sensuousness of the post-romantic male choir. The piece also contains two soundscapes the conductor and choristers must assemble by superimposin scraps of ostinati. The music sounds both medieval and modern, both near and far-away, reflecting the swep of time invoked in the text. Paying tribute to the metaphysical poets of the 17th century, the text links the bliss and mystery of the cosmos to our sense of earthly love. The textures range from lean to lush, and allow the singers a great deal of stylistic range. For men's choir (TTBB).
