Born in Berlin in 1961 * First music lessons in 1964 (violin, piano) * From 1980, studies with a major in music education at the Berlin College of the Arts * From 1979, first chamber music compositions * Private composition studies in Berlin and Vienna * Active as free-lance composer since 1983 * Focus on vocal music in close contact with the performers * From 1984–1992 musical direction of the “Junges Theater” Berlin * Since 2001 Frank Schwemmer, in close collaboration with Berlin’s opera houses, has increasingly made a name for himself as an opera composer with works like Der kleine Muck (The History of Little Mook, Berliner Kammeroper/Carrousel Theater), Angela – Eine Nationaloper (Angela – A National Opera, Neuköllner Oper), Der Reiter mit dem Wind im Haar (The Rider with Wind in his Hair), and Robin Hood (both for Komische Oper Berlin)
